My name is Melissa Sangster. I'm a mother to three amazing now young adult children and have two beautiful granddaughters. My husband and I own a business doing concrete work. But my passion and love is my dogs. I started out with german shepherds and toy poodles for family pets when the kids were young. But fell in love with poodles in all the sizes and got a couple quality ones from some show breeders. And so the showing and love of dogs began. I bred and championed poodles in all three sizes for several years and just enjoyed it. One day my friend asked me to babysit her litter while she went off to a show. I agreed and she handed me some havanese puppies. Boy was I disappointed as I hoped they were poodles. But we fell madely in love with these adorable little havanese puppies. My daughter and I each keeping one from that litter. And this is how my love for the cute, mischievous, fun, loving little havanese dogs joined my life. I have since retired from poodle breeding and breed the havanese only now. These little dogs can be so addicting and enjoyable. One of my daughters and my granddaughter enjoys helping too. Havanese come in so many colors and markings and all have the amazing personalities. I can't imagine a better hobby. I used the Keykats name for my dogs as it was a special nickname my father called me as a young child. So no I don't have cats.
My goals as a breeder to improve the breed and breed the highest quality dogs possible. I show many of my dogs to prove they meet the breed standard for the traits AKC has set forth that they should have. As well as all of my dogs are health tested for genetic issues proir to breeding them. This is to ensure I produce the healthiest puppies possible so that I can provide my next generation and your family with the absoulute best. I only raise a few litters a year, but we raise them in our home, handle them daily, my grandaughter enjoys helping with the puppies and good socializer too.
